Township
Board
The Township Board meets on the second
Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Hamlin Townhall. They review
the budget, hear reports form the fire department, and each of the boards.
The general business of running the Township is discussed as well as any
new business brought before the Board by local residents. During winter
monthes they meet at 4PM. Call to verify time.
Members of this board
are
elected officials. The serve for a four year term with no term limit. Elections
are held at the same time as the presidential election. The costs associated

Detail.
Zoning Board
of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets
as needed to vote on variance requests of Hamlin Township residents.
They always meet on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. The meeting dates are posted on
the door of the townhall, and in the Ludington Daily News eight days before
the scheduled meeting. Notices are mailed to every property owner within
300 feet of any property requesting a zoning variance. The meetings are
open to the public.
Copies of the Hamlin Township Zoning Ordinance
#34 are available from the Townhall for $10. A colored
zoning map is included.
There are five members
on this board. Three members of this board are appointed by the Township
Board. A fourth is also appointed, but serves on the Planning and Zoning
Commission as well. They each serve for a three year term which ends on
December 31st of a given year. The terms are staggered so that only one
or two members change in any given year. Members may be reappointed without
term limit. They are paid $35 per meeting. The fifth member of this board
is one of the Trustees, an elected official. Persons interested in serving
on this committee must submit their name and resume to the Township Board
for consideration.
Planning and
Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission meets on the
first
Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Hamlin Townhall. They
address requests for "special land uses", and recommend zoning changes.
All recommended zoning changes require a Public Hearing before being finalized.
The meeting dates are posted on the door of the townhall, and in the case
of "special land use" and Public Hearings are published in the Ludington
Daily News eight days before the scheduled meeting. Any changes are next
forwarded to the County Zoning Commission for review. The final step is
a vote by the Hamlin Township Board. If approved, the new or amended ordinance
is published in the Ludington Daily News, and becomes law 30 days later.
A copy of the Hamlin Township Land Use Plan -
April 1994 is available from the Hamlin Townhall for $10. A future land
use map is included.
There are seven
members on this board. Six members of this board are appointed by the
Township Board. They each serve for a four year term which ends on December
31st of a given year. The terms are staggered so that only one or two members
change in any given year. Members may be reappointed without term limit.
They are paid $35 per meeting. The seventh member of this board is one
of the Trustees, an elected official. Persons interested in serving on
this committee must submit their name and resume to the Township Board
for consideration.
Tax Board of
Review
The Tax Board of Review meets at tax time. Their
purpose is to address erroneous tax bills. Residents call for an appointment
to address any questions regarding their assessment. The Tax Board of Review
can correct errors, but cannot just lower taxes for disgruntled residents.
The review dates are always published in the Ludington Daily News and on
the door of the Townhall.
There are three appointed
members of this board. They serve for two year terms that end concurrently.
