Web Sites: Some Current Favorites
These are sites that delighted me when I first encountered
them and continue to delight me today. Enjoy!
- Glen Little's
page gives you a good place to start finding out more
about the Bah' Faith.
- If
you haven't seen an IPIX photo bubble
yet, you've got to check out this new web
technology. Start by downloading
the plug-in for Netscape 4 or Internet Explorer 4.
- If you want a good guide to your net surfing, check out
the Internet Tourbus.
It emails you regular suggestions about what's really
interesting, useful, or just plain fun on the Internet.
- Looking for something in or about South Africa? Then
check out Ananzi South
Africa, an award-winning search engine devoted to
South African content. (The other South African search
engine that I previously recommend, Aardvark, just never
seemed to take off.)
- Hunting for someone's email
address? Try this service that queries multiple
search engines.
- Find the movie review you need (or, more likely, scores
of reviews of the movie you're thinking about) by using
the Movie
Review Query Engine.
- This
movie review search engine links you to the Internet Movie Database,
which is full of useful (and not-so-useful) information
about films. For example, after enjoying the Boston-area
scenes in Good
Will Hunting recently I was surprised to see Ontario,
Canada, acknowledged in the credits. The IMDb told me
that the interior scenes in the Harvard dorms were
actually shot in Toronto! (I didn't think they looked
familiar!)
- My
current favorite for virtual greetings cards is Blue
Mountain Arts' Electronic Greeting Cards. Their cards
are animated and musical, and they celebrate lots of
topic events with special cards. (They even had one for
Naw-Ruz on March 21st, the Persian New Year that
Bah's around the world celebrate, too.) Prairie
Frontier also sends nice virtual cards. They don't do
animation or sound, but they have some lovely designs,
they are easy to customize, and the service emails you a
confirmation when the recipient actually collects the
card.
- To order a real greeting card (personalized and posted
for you from the U.S.), try American
Greetings.
- Design and send your own electronic
postcard with the help of Kodak's digital imaging
site. (The system actually sends the recipient an email
message with a web address where s/he can view the
postcard you create.)
- You can also send a virtual bouquet
to someone you love (or even real flowers).
