Habitat
is the key to wildlife abundance. The Northwest
Michigan Chapter of Pheasants Forever works
on habitat reclaimation in the Mason/Oceana/Manistee Tri-County area. Creating,
restoring and enhancing the quality of open grassland habitat is our primary
focus. Undisturbed blocks of nesting cover are urgently needed if pheasants
are to thrive in this area. In addition, we plant corn, sorgham, buckwheat
and other grains in food plots adjacent to the warm and cool season grasses.
Legumes and berry producing woody cover are added to provide food and protection
from predators. What's good for the pheasant is also good
for the meadowlark, boblink and bluebird as well! See
our newsletters for details on our projects
and information about habitat.
