The Monday, February 17, 1997 meeting of the Hamlin Township Zoning Board of Appeals was called to order at 7:30 PM by Chairperson M. Kelly.

Roll Call:
Members Present: A. Casperson, M. Kelly, C. Miller, J. Thomas
Members Absent: D. Petersen
Others Present: S. Armstrong, P. Wolf, B. Janecyk

The first order of business concerns the annual election of the Zoning Board of Appeals officers.

Motion: C. Miller made a motion to reinstate the current slate of officers, seconded by A. Casperson. Chairperson, Mike Kelly; Vice Chairperson, A. Casperson; Secretary, J.Thomas - The vote was unanimous. Motion passed.

The second order of business concerned:
A request for a variance from Mr. Bob Janecyk of 6006 Barnhart Road (Barnhart's Resort), Ludington, Michigan is requesting a variance on their property described as Property Number 53-007-002-124-00, to expand on a nonconforming use by adding 261 sq.ft. of living space to a small cottage located on his resort. The total square feet of the cottage with the proposed addition would be 727 sq.ft. Zoning Ordinance 34 calls for a minimum of 900 sq.ft. of living space. Current zoning of this property is R-2.

Correspondence: None

Motion: C. Miller motioned to approve based on compatibility with surrounding area and financial hardship to meet 900 sq ft required by the ordinance, seconded by M. Kelly.

Vote: A. Casperson, NO; M. Kelly, YES; C. Miller, YES; J. Thomas, NO - Motion failed.

Reason: Denied due to lack of sufficient hardship.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 24, 1997 at 7:30PM, to review the variance request of Dr. and Mrs. Riemer, Property Number 53-007-295-002-00.

There being no further business at hand, J. Thomas motioned to adjourn, supported by A. Casperson. All members were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.
