The Monday July 7, 1997 meeting of the Hamlin Township Zoning Board of Appeals was called to order at 7:30 PM by A. Casperson.

Roll Call:
Members Present: A. Casperson, W. Karlsen, A. Lewis, D. Petersen, J. Thomas
Members Absent: C. Miller
Others Present: S. Armstrong, David & Janice Michiela, Peter Heyse, Steven Canning, Judy & Larry Stefanski, John O�Connor
Minutes: A motion was made to accept the minutes of the May 19, 1997 meeting, by W. Karlsen supported by D. Petersen, all in favor Motion Carried.

1)The first order of business concerned:

  • Property Number 53-007-022-052-50 address 6825 Jackson Road, described as parcel 3, Sec.22 T19N R18W.
  • Steven & Terry Canning are requesting to construct an oversized pole building 30X44 or 1,320 sq. ft. This exceeds the limit of 960 sq. ft. as defined by Ordinance 34 by 360 sq. ft.
  • Correspondence: Craig & Janet Carpenter approve of request.

    Motion: W. Karlsen motion to approve supported by D. Petersen
    Reason: Will not cause adverse affect on surrounding properties.
    Vote: Casperson Approve; Karlsen Approve; Lewis Approve; Petersen Approve; Thomas Deny Motion Carried.
    Mr. Canning then requested to be allowed to increase the width to 32� in order to utilize standard materials, an issue he did not realize at the time of his filing.
    Motion: A. Casperson made a motion to amend the allowable size of the building to be 32X44 supported by W. Karlsen.
    Reason: Will not cause adverse affect on surrounding properties.
    Vote: Casperson Yes; Karlsen Yes; Lewis Yes; Petersen Yes; Thomas No Motion Carried.

    2)The second order of business concerned:

    Property Number 53-007-103-022-00 address 1751 N. Lincoln Road, described as the N 100 ft. of SE ¼ of NE ¼ exc. hwy. r/w on east side, Sec.3 T18N R18W 0.76 A M/L, and 53-007-103-023-90, described as the N 100 ft. of 5,200 ft. of N 300 ft. of E 10 acres of SE ¼ of NE ¼ Sec.3 T18N R18W 0.76 A M/L.

    R. Peter Heyse is requesting a double variance 1) to construct a pole building within 12 ft. of the rear of his property which exceeds the 25 ft. setback requirement of Ordinance 34 by 13 ft. and 2)to construct a 1,280 sq.ft. pole building exceeding the limit of 960 sq. ft. as defined by Ordinance 34 by 320 sq. ft. The structure will have a 16X40 (640 sq.ft.) attached lean to.

    Correspondence: None - Neighbors Larry & Judy Stfanski came and voiced approval. Neighboe John O�Connor also came in person to voice approval.

    Motion: D. Petersen motioned to approve supported by W. Karlsen
    Reason: No adverse effect to surrounding property.
    Vote: Casperson Approve; Karlsen Approve; Lewis Approve; Petersen Approve; Thomas Deny Motion Carried.

    3) The third order of business concerned:
    Property Number 53-007-001-046-20 located at the end of Beaune Road, northwest of Laman�s Landing. Access is by private road extending north of Beaune Road. Property is part of the William Bobey property.
    David & Janice Machiela are requesting to construct a water front home that is 26 ft. high from grade, exceeding the 18 ft. limit provided by Ordinance 34, by 8ft.
    Correspondence: M. Banninga called to voice approval.
    Motion: A. Lewis motioned to approve supported by A. Casperson
    Reason: Unique features of the property�s steep grade.
    Vote: Casperson Approve; Karlsen Approve; Lewis Approve; Petersen Approve; Thomas Approve Motion Carried.
    The next meeting will be held upon notification. There being no further business at hand, A.Casperson motioned to adjourn, supported by J. Thomas . All members were in favor. Motion Carried The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.
