EGA,
type of monitor for IBM compatibles. As of today's technology, EGA quality monitors are not anywhere near what you can have with either a VGA or a Super VGA.

Electronic Mail,
e-mail is usually associated with the internet, but can also be used with BBS. E-mail is exactly what it says, electronic mail.

Executable Files,
file that can be started. Executable files use data files and many other file formats. Executable files are usually applications. Its file format in DOS is .exe.

File,
computer stored data. Everything you will use with a computer will in some way or another use a file.

File format,
shows what type of file it is. For example, you cannot use the text file format, .txt, for saving an image. You would have to use one of the many image file formats. One is the .gif format.

File Transfer Protocol,
a way of sending compressed files over the internet. There are File Transfer Protocol sites where you can download files. This is part of the internet. The abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol is FTP.

Floppy disk,
file saving to either a 31/2 floppy disk or a 51/4 floppy disk. Most common today is the 31/2 floppy disk. Floppy disks are not as reliable as a hard drive, but do very well for backing up files.

Floppy disk drive,
drive that reads either 31/2 or 51/4 floppy disks. One floppy drive does not read both. Each has its own floppy disk drive.

Font,
style of type. There are lterally hundreds of different fonts. Some for text and others of smile faces and other graphics.
